Where can I go for academic help?
College brings with it a whole host of new freedoms and responsibilities. Balancing your academic needs with your new social freedoms can be a challenge. If you find yourself falling behind or just struggling to grasp an important concept don’t despair! St. Lawrence College offers it’s students a variety of services to help those in need. All you need to do is seek out your Student Success Facilitator (SSF) and he or she will be glad to help you out!
What services do the Student Success Facilitators offer?
The SSFs provide students with a wide variety of services, ranging from peer tutoring to useful study guides. They work closely with faculty and college services to ensure a positive learning experience. Here is a basic breakdown of the services they provide:
- Development of effective learning and study strategies
- Information and referral to College resources and services
- Academic advising
- Peer Tutoring
- Help with adjusting to college life
Simply follow this link, and you will be able find campus specific SSFs.
What about peer tutoring?
Those who are struggling with a course may wish to seek help from a peer tutor. Peer tutors help students by giving them a chance to review course material in a more personal manner. This provides time for review and focused problem solving. Another benefit is that the learning is provided by their peers, so it helps break the ice and make them more approachable. Most courses in most programs offer peer tutoring, but it is subject to peer tutor availability.
