How to Supplement

Healthy living has many different forms and styles. There are a number of ways to modify your lifestyle and integrate new routines, diets, exercises, and even a new supplement to improve your overall health and well being. Unfortunately, for many people, it takes a significant event or occurrence in their life (usually bad) to decide to make the change towards healthy living. This does not have to be the case. A change towards a healthier lifestyle can provide multiple advantages that are extremely beneficial and will not only make you look better and feel better, but help to avoid the dreaded freshman 15.

One of the most beneficial and scientifically proven methods of a healthy lifestyle is physical exercise (training). Training has been a staple in healthy living for many years. Unfortunately, there is a very common misconception associated with it. Many people hear the word “training” and think of pro bodybuilders who have muscles so big that it makes you wonder, “how do they even scratch their head!?”. This can be very off putting for some and lead to avoiding it all together. Fortunately, there are a number of different approaches to training techniques that can be tailored specifically towards your personal goals.

Like training, supplements are very specific and unique in their results. So it is important to research because using supplements can be a foreign and unknown concept to many people looking to start training. With so many different ingredients, labels, reviews and personal opinions it can be overwhelming and even intimidating, leaving most to wonder where to begin.

Supplements should be perceived in a very similar fashion to training, with each being designed in order to meet your personal goals and push you towards your desired results. Creating a game plan can be an extremely effective way to make sure you are getting the proper nutrition to not only meet but exceed your fitness goals.

Game Plan

  1. Create goals and objectives for your training regimen, understand what you want to accomplish and how to get there.
  2. Join a proper fitness facility (or home gym) that has the required equipment. Remember, supplements don’t work unless you do!
  3. Do your research. Read blogs, labels and reviews, watch videos, talk to professionals and people at your local gym.
  4. Consult your doctor. Know your limits and personal health. Not all supplements are good for everyone.
  5. When purchasing for the first time, go to a local store (GNC, Popeye’s) and ask questions. The associates are knowledgeable, experienced, and there to help.
  6. Develop and stick to a healthy, nutritious diet plan. Supplements increase your diet and hard work, they don’t replace them!

The most important aspect of training and supplements is to have an understanding of your body and your personal goals. Every single person is unique in how their body works and responds to different things. Once you become comfortable, try experimenting with different brands and combinations to find what works best for you. Fitness is a journey and not one that comes easily so be true to yourself.
